Watch Elon Musk Smoke Weed During Joe Rogan Podcast

Tesla's head of human resources, Gabrielle Toledano, who is now on a leave of absence, told Bloomberg News Friday morning that she would not return to Tesla.

Shares of electric vehicle maker Tesla Inc. tumbled over 9 percent as the markets opened Friday, Sept. 7, after the CEO smoked marijuana during a YouTube video podcast and the company’s accounting chief left after a month on the job.

That followed a twitter storm overnight about Musk smoking marijuana and drinking whisky in a 2-1/2-hour live web show with comedian Joe Rogan.

Towards the end, Rogan lit what he described as a joint containing tobacco and cannabis - which is legal in California - and offered it to Musk.

"I mean it's legal, right?" said Musk, before taking a puff. "It's very hard to keep a auto company alive", Musk said. But Tesla has said that the departures are at a rate typical of any large company.

Whatever the intent of his recent public musings, Musk's wobbly behavior appears to be making investors nervous, as evidenced by Friday's decline in Tesla's share price.

Elon Musk talked about artifical intelligence and colonising space during the long interview. Before the podcast came to a close, Musk told Rogan that he had already received inquiries about the controversial toke.

Later on Friday, Tesla named a new president of automotive operations, promoting eight-year Tesla employee and former Daimler truck exec Jerome Guillen into the role overseeing all automotive operations and reporting to Musk.

The latest round of executive departures comes after Elon Musk opted to walk away from his initiative to take the company private last month.

As mentioned, the reasons for the stock dropping go beyond Musk smoking marijuana - including two Tesla executives resigning.

Also on Friday, Tesla disclosed that its chief of accounting, Dave Morton, was leaving the company only weeks after being hired.

Last month's "go private" plan caused Tesla's shares to spike upward, but when the idea fizzled, the stock took a beating. In July, he tweeted that a British diver who helped with the rescue of a Thai soccer team trapped in a cave was a "pedo guy".

In August, Musk told The New York Times he was exhausted from too much work and difficulty sleeping in an interview that sharpened questions about his mental stability. What I'm saying is that when Musk is bad the tweets are good, and here are the best ones from today's well-deserved social media dogpile.

"If he wanted to prove them wrong with actions, he would delete Twitter, drop the Unsworth conversation and not use recreational drugs in a public setting".
