4 dead, 5 injured in shooting at Cincinnati bank

The three people killed were identified by the Hamilton County Coroner's office as Pruthvi Raj Kandepi, Richard Newcomer, and Luis Felipe Calderón. The cops have also recovered a pistol and more than 200 rounds of ammunition from the gunman, who died on spot. The police chief said that the gunman acted alone.

The situation appeared to be under control shortly before 7 a.m.

Cincinnati police chief Eliot Isaac said investigators don't know why Santa Perez made a decision to open fire in the building that headquarters Fifth Third Bancorp.

The officers were wearing body cameras.

Isaac said its unclear why Perez carried out the attack, though investigators are now combing through evidence at his home in North Bend, approximately 15 miles west of downtown Cincinnati.

"This is not normal, and it shouldn't be viewed as normal".

Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley said random people were targeted during the "horrific" attack.

"There's something deeply sick at work here and we as a country need to work on it", the mayor added at a news conference. He was one of the three persons killed in the firing which left two others injured. The University of Cincinnati Medical Center said that two victims died at the hospital and that one survivor was in critical condition and another was in serious condition. He had completed his post-graduation and was working as a financial consultant at the bank in Cincinnati.

At least two ambulances were seen leaving the scene. Then, she heard more that "sounded as if they were getting closer and closer", the Associated Press reported.

The responding officers hit Perez several times, killing him, Isaac said.

Another onlooker, Leonard Cain, told a newspaper he had been about to enter the bank when someone warned him about the shooting.

"We did hear a gun shooting from the 29th floor", he told the station. It sits above bustling Fountain Square a few blocks from Great American Ball Park and the riverfront along the Ohio River. "We're a bit rattled", said a Fifth Third Bank manager. Multiple shot, and tragically there are fatalities.

Streets around the building at the city's Fountain Square were closed as were sidewalks.

"Earlier today, an active shooter entered our headquarters building in downtown Cincinnati".

Hundreds of people gathered Friday to remember the victims at a vigil in Fountain Square, just steps from the site of the shooting. It is home to retail stores, business offices, hotels and eateries.
