And International Space Station astronaut Ricky Arnold has also posted several pics to social media, showing an ominous mass of swirling clouds.

A million people have been told to evacuate coastal parts of the eastern United States as Hurricane Florence churns towards the country.

Hurricane Florence remains a strong Category 4 hurricane Tuesday morning with sustained winds of 140 miles per hour.

In preparation for the storm, the governments of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia have all declared states of emergency and are mobilizing resources.

Carrying winds of up to 220 km/h as a Category 4 storm, Hurricane Florence is expected to strengthen and possibly become a Category 5 storm on Tuesday.

Mandatory evacuation orders are in effect Tuesday in three US states as forecasters and officials urge people to get ready for devastating winds and heavy rains from Hurricane Florence.

Forecasters said Florence will move over the southwestern Atlantic, between Bermuda and the Bahamas, Tuesday and Wednesday - and approach the Carolina coast Thursday.

It added that the hurricane should approach the U.S. coast by Thursday.

However, not every storm like this is a hurricane: NOAA explains they must have winds of at least 74 miles per hour.

Other impacts, like potential rain, depend upon what Florence does after it makes landfall, the meteorologist said. The storm is forecast to potentially stall once it makes landfall, showering the area in torrential amounts of rain.

One of the most high-profile games scheduled for this weekend has been called off, with No. 18 Central Florida announcing Tuesday its game at North Carolina has been canceled.

"I'm telling them to go inland, but I'm anxious about the rain and tornadoes too", Roberts said.

This is why people who are south of the center will say after the storm it wasn't so bad, but since the point of crossing isn't known, a wide area will be under a hurricane warning soon.

Several meteorologists said Florence could do what Hurricane Harvey did previous year over Texas, dumping days of rain, although not quite as bad. Another aspect of the forecast to notice is the highest intensity of the storm is predicted to occur before landfall and then there is likely to be some minor weakening prior to the eye crossing the land.

As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, Hurricane Florence had maximum sustained winds of about 139 miles per hour and gusts of 167 miles per hour, said the National Hurricane Center.

How are you preparing for Hurricane Florence? A large swath of Virginia could also see between 10 and 15 inches of rain.

Mandatory evacuation orders are in effect for both Carolinas and Virginia. And with little wind shear to pull the storm apart, Florence's hurricane wind field was expected to expand over the coming days, increasing its storm surge and inland wind threats.

Another storm, Hurricane Isaac, however, is expected to hit the Lesser Antilles as a "minimal" Category One storm or "strong tropical storm" on Thursday.
