Rubbishing Mallya's remark, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that Mallya's comment was "factually false". "However, since he was a Rajya Sabha MP, he once misused his privilege while I was walking out of the House to my room".

"I happened to meet Mr Jaitley in Parliament and told him that I am leaving for London..." That is the truth.' However, he did not mention that it was Arun Jaitley.

But the issue did not end here.

Mallya told media outside of court that he had met Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to settle matters before he left the country.

In an interview to news channel NDTV, former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said it is a "big coincidence" that Mallya left India on the day a consortium of banks moved to recover debts, and that it was possible that "someone could have tipped-off Mallya".

Mallya first spoke about meeting Jaitley during the lunch break when he stepped out for a smoke. The issues is being played up by the Congress party.

Charging the Congress with spreading lies, Goyal said, "When they broke all laws with the help of banks and RBI and gave special allowances to Kingfisher, then people lost their money".

Instead, the BJP asked the Congress chief to quit all posts that he holds since his family's "relations" forced banks to sanction loans to Mallya's company in 2010-11, when the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government was ruling at the Centre.

"Rahul Gandhi has gone on back foot over Kingfisher Airlines", ANI quoted Patra as saying.

A fresh attack on Rahul Gandhi was launched by Union Minister Piyush Goyal at a press conference.

On Thursday, a CBI official who asked not to be identified repeated the agency's March 2016 clarification (soon after Mallya fled) that the original circular, seeking his detention was a mistake; that Mallya had, after the dilution of the circular, travelled in and out of India four times; that Mallya had, since the dilution, been questioned thrice; and that there was no inkling that he would flee. The judgment in Mallya's extradition case will be pronounced on December 10, 2018.

Dressed in a suit and wearing his shades, Mallya appeared relaxed even as the judge is expected to review a video of the Mumbai jail cell prepared by the Indian authorities for the embattled liquor tycoon.
