This was one that seemed nearly destined to happen once Cleveland loudly announced he would be available and that they would be releasing him this week.

Gordon's tantalizing talent had caused the Browns to hang onto him while he dealt with drug and alcohol dependence dating his teens.

The Cleveland Browns have finally parted ways with wide receiver Josh Gordon.

As part of the condition, the 27-year-old Gordon reportedly must appear in at least 10 of New England's 14 remaining games. Rather than outright releasing Gordon, the Browns are now trying to trade him to get something in return.

Gordon played in the Browns' season opener against Pittsburgh, but he reported to the team on Saturday with a unexplained hamstring injury after practicing all week.

The Browns gave up a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft when they selected Gordon with a second-round choice in the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft.

However, Gordon has always been more of a freestyler, and he does not run crisp routes.

The Patriots are extremely thin at the wide receiver position now, and as such, they're going to make a play at a very talented player that just never really panned out.

Gordon burst onto the scene in 2014, leading the National Football League with 1,646 receiving yards in only 14 games.

Josh Gordon, who spent six years with the Browns organization, battled through a lot of off-field issues. When healthy, Gordon is one of the best in the game and could provide Tom Brady with a weapon he hasn't seen since Randy Moss. Additionally, Gordon was on the receiving end of five passes that went for gains of at least 20 yards and converted 12 first downs.

This season Gordon has one catch, and it was the game-tying touchdown in the Browns' season-opening tie against the Steelers.
