Paris St-Germain warmed up for their Champions League match at Liverpool by cruising past Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1. I asked Neymar at 10 GMT on Friday how he was, and his reply was 'I do not know.' When he told me that, it was an alarm in my head.

Saint-Etienne missed a string of early chances and their coach Jean-Louis Gasset felt a four-goal defeat was a harsh result.

"It was a good rehearsal, good for the confidence ahead of Tuesday's match in Anfield against Liverpool".

"Their proposal arrived too late, I had already made a decision to join the PSG", Tuchel told L'Equipe.

And PSG doubled their lead just six minutes after the restart, Cavani scoring from the penalty spot for his 12th career goal against Saint-Etienne.

The Brazil worldwide was in the stands alongside suspended teammate Kylian Mbappe to watch the French champions register their fifth victory from as many Championnat matches through Julian Draxler, Edinson Cavani (penalty), Angel Di Maria and Moussa Diaby goals.

Marco Verratti made his first competitive appearance since March after recovering from a groin injury but Tuchel indicated he may make a late call over one of his players.

And Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will put out his strongest side for today's Premier League game against title rivals Tottenham at Wembley (12.30pm). If we work well every day, if we live well every day as a group, we should be ready for the big matches. Unfortunately, we did not manage to score.

Brazil superstar Neymar and World Cup victor Kylian Mbappe watched from the stands as PSG provided ideal preparation for the Champions League opener at Anfield, but the result somewhat flattered the hosts after a shaky first 45 minutes. "Liverpool will reveal something but most importantly it will give us a better idea of our situation".

"We must respect this opponent who is a great team, but I think we can do something".

Mbappe begins a three-game ban from domestic action handed down after he was sent off right at the end of PSG's 4-2 win at Nimes a fortnight ago.
