Senators wait to see if Kavanaugh accuser will testify

But as Senators left town for the week, they headed home unsure as to whether Ford would be on Capitol Hill for testimony next Monday, as Ford's lawyers echoed calls by Democrats for a full Federal Bureau of Investigation review of her charge against Kavanaugh - before any hearing could take place.

She said Kavanaugh also tried to remove her one-piece bathing suit and put a hand over her mouth to muffle her screams.

"That way, senators will have necessary information and expert analysis at their disposal at the hearing making it much less likely that it will devolve into a "he said, she said" affair", he said.

"Let's create a fund to cover her security expenses, to do just a bit to make it easier for women in her position to come forward despite great risks", Feldman said before deciding to pause the fundraiser until she learns more about Blasey's security needs.

Republican sources on Capitol Hill say it's uncertain if the hearing scheduled for next Monday to address the accusation against Kavanaugh will occur.

Ford's lawyers responded on Tuesday, saying that she would not testify publicly until a "full investigation by law enforcement officials" had been completed. 24 in which both Kavanaugh and Ford are invited to testify.

Sen. Susan Collins (R., Maine) wants each to testify under oath before the committee, and to answer questions from opposing counsel. She also has questioned the speed of the hearing and the fact that there will be only two witnesses, Kavanaugh and Ford.

Grassley has rejected Leahy's request for such an investigation. The FBI investigated the sexual harassment claims Anita Hill leveled against Justice Clarence Thomas during his confirmation process in 1991. However, the public did not know Ford was Kavanaugh's accuser until she came forward in an interview with the Washington Post that was published on Sunday. They say the White House counsel directed the FBI to investigate when Hill accused Thomas of sexual harassment.
