Chris Paisley birdied four of the last five holes for a 10-under 61 and the first-round lead Thursday in the season-ending Tour Championship.

Tiger Woods plays a shot on the 18th hole during the first round of the TOUR Championship. "I hit it well off the tee, which gave me a lot of kind of short irons into the greens and opportunities".

"I'm really happy with my round today, and I think I played fantastically, if I'm honest", said Rose afterwards.

Fans could not believe what they'd just witnessed.

Olson not only received tickets to all four days of one of the biggest tournaments in golf, he also got an inside look at the practice facility and a chance to meet players, including Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler.

Rose arrived in Atlanta ranked second in the FedExCup standings behind Bryson DeChambeau, but the 38-year-old is now projected to top the standings after the young American stumbled to a 71, although he did recover from an outward 39 featuring two double-bogeys with three birdies after the turn.

Utah's event moving to June dates for first time ever

Woods, who owns two Tour Championship titles and the tournament's scoring record (257), opened his round with a bogey. He then turned it up on the back nine, with birdies at the 12th and 13th holes setting the stage for his final-hole eagle. "I felt in control".

"The only hard part was getting my speed on the greens early".

Tiger Woods qualified for the season finale in his first playoff appearance since 2013.

Since returning officially to the US Tour in January after having spinal fusion surgery a year ago, Woods' 17 events have yielded two runner-up finishes among six top 10s and 11 top 25s.

Fellow-Queenslander Cameron Smith made a birdie a the 18 after hitting the back fringe of the green with a driver off the deck to shoot an even-par 70, tied-17, but Marc Leishman had a disappointing day, carding a 73.

"I didn't know how many tournaments I'd play in, and next thing you know, here I am in the Tour Championship".
