In a statement submitted to the court, Constand, 45, said the assault and Cosby's subsequent attacks on her character had crushed her spirit, adding: "We may never know the full extent of his double life as a sexual predator, but his decades-long reign of terror as a serial rapist is over".

Yet Cosby's publicist, Andrew Wyatt, maintained his client's innocence in a weird Tuesday afternoon press conference in Norristown, Pennsylvania. The 81-year-old is legally blind. On Tuesday night, he arrived at Pennsylvania's State Correctional Institute at Phoenix, a brand-new, state-of-the-art, maximum security prison.

Cosby had remained out of prison for the past five months on $1 million bail, and his lawyers said they plan to appeal his convictions.

The judge ultimately sentenced Cosby to three to 10 years in prison and ruled that he is a 'sexually violent predator, ' meaning that he must undergo lifetime counseling and report quarterly to authorities.

Cosby's lawyers face a hard burden in convincing an appellate court to second-guess O'Neill's decision, experts told Reuters.

Once known as America's Dad for his role on the top-rated "Cosby Show" in the 1980s, the actor was convicted of violating Constand, Temple University women's basketball administrator, at his suburban Philadelphia mansion in 2004.

Cosby has countersued the seven women in the MA case, alleging they engaged in a campaign to "assassinate" his "honorable legacy and reputation".

At Cosby's first trial, prosecutors sought to call more than a dozen other accusers, but O'Neill limited them to just one: Kelly Johnson, who said Cosby drugged and assaulted her in 1996.

Bill Cosby is behind bars, but that doesn't mean his sexual assault case is over. He spent a few hours in county jail before being shipped off to SCI Phoenix, a modern 3,830-bed facility that opened in June. "I do not need any more discussion on that", he responded to a question on whether he'd say something.

"Bill Cosby is out of options", said veteran Pennsylvania prosecutor Jarrett Ferentino, who wasn't involved in the case.

Cosby's first trial, which took place in June 2017, ended in mistrial after a panel of jurors were unable to unanimously agree on a verdict.

Several of Cosby's alleged victims were in court for the sentencing, including supermodel Janice Dickinson.
