We may see Tropical Storm Michael form today

The complex was upgraded to a tropical depression Sunday morning.

Wind: tropical storm conditions are expected to first reach the coast within the warning area by tonight, making outside preparations hard or risky.

Rainfall amounts in parts of Central America and western Cuba will range from 3 to 6 inches, with up to 1 foot possible locally.

It urged people in the Yucatan Penninsula, western Cuba and the northern Gulf Coast to keep on the system. The current forecast keeps the center east of MS, making landfall sometime Wednesday or early Thursday between Mobile and Panama City most likely as a tropical storm.

Landfall is most likely to occur somewhere between the Mississippi/Alabama border and the Florida Panhandle Wednesday into Wednesday night.

If it were to track north and closer to the Appalachian Mountains, we could see higher rain totals later this coming week. So, at this point, rain chances look very high during that time. It will continue to send a long period swell with elevated rip risk our way through the weekend.

The storm is located about 800 miles east-northeast of Bermuda. These large swells will continue on Sunday.

The storm at 8 a.m. was travelling with 35-mph winds. Our state understands how serious tropical weather is and how devastating any hurricane or tropical storm can be.

The National Hurricane Center said in an 11 a.m. advisory that almost "all of the intensity models bring the cyclone to hurricane strength over the Gulf of Mexico in two to three days, and the NHC forecast follows suit". If that happens, it will be tropical storm Michael.

PTC 14 is forecast to organize and strengthen into a tropical storm by Monday afternoon.
