Bradley's 3-run double helps Red Sox even ALCS

Verlander pitched six innings of two-hit ball, and Carlos Correa fisted a single into left field to break a sixth-inning tie. This time, the red-bearded right-hander put another fright into the Red Sox, surrendering a two-out run and once again - this time facing Astros third baseman Alex Bregman - pinning his own left fielder to the wall (albeit the short porch of the Green Monster) to catch the final out. But after a Steve Pearce single to open the fifth and a three-pitch strikeout of Brock Holt for the first out, Verlander's command deserted him. The left-hander hit Martin Maldonado with a 96 miles per hour fastball around a pair of walks and was one strike away from getting out of it, but Springer laced a full-count fastball under Nunez's glove and into left field for a 2-0 lead.

The Sox managed to keep it close for much of the night, until Houston hit two home runs off Brandon Workman in the ninth inning to put the game out of reach.

Houston took advantage of another hit batter in the sixth - this one by reliever Joe Kelly - and Nunez dropping the ball for an error as he started to throw after fielding Gurriel's grounder. The Red Sox beat the Astros, 7-5, to even the series at a game apiece.

All four of those runs he allowed came with two outs. Sale gave up two runs, one hit, four walks and a hit batter, and his average fastball velocity of 92 miles per hour was down 3 miles per hour from the Division Series. Benintendi was not happy about the strike call that got Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander out of a jam with runners on second and third. Cora has expressed confidence in Price, a Cy Young Award victor who is 0-9 in 10 post-season starts, and the 108-win Red Sox will need him to be better than Sale was in the opener. "He's got to make a decision on whether or not to concede the wall and try to play it off the wall or try to make a catch", Hinch said.

West's inability to dodge the ball may have cost the Astros a base, as Vazquez's throw was likely headed for center field if it didn't smack the ump in the shoulder.

Cora was apparently yelling at the umpires after the inning and got tossed.

"I mean, he's been doing that for a while", Boston manager Alex Cora said of Bradley.

Things got slightly better as the night went on. We're not gonna hang our heads in the locker room.

"From what I know, it's nothing serious, but obviously, whenever you have to go to the hospital you gotta be, quote-unquote, worried".

J.D. Martinez is 0-for-7 to start the series and is just 5-for-33 with two homers against the Astros since he signed with the Red Sox.

Pedroia was 16 for 58 against Price in his career before the left-hander signed a free agent deal with the Red Sox prior to the 2016 season. He allowed the Astros to tie the score in the top of the second and Marwin Gonzalez belted a two-run homer off of him one inning later.

The Red Sox have not officially announced their starters for Games 3 and 4 of the ALCS.
