Megyn Kelly Fired From 'Today' - Who Will Replace Her at NBC?

An NBC News spokesperson confirmed the network's parting with Kelly, but did not indicate a specific long-term replacement.

A report Friday on the "Today" show cited a source familiar with the situation as saying NBC News and Kelly are in talks about the anchor leaving the network.

Roker hosted the 9 a.m. hour with Tamron Hall before Kelly joined Today in 2017.

"Kelly outraged viewers earlier this week during a panel on controversial Halloween costumes", Townhall reported. She did cooking demonstrations and explored emotional topics.

"What is racist?" Kelly pondered.

What put Kelly in hot water?

"I defended the idea saying as long as it was respectful and part of a Halloween costume it seemed okay". Her show wasn't performing as well in the ratings as its predecessor, which featured Roker and other anchors.

In addition to the public apology, she sent a contrite letter to her colleagues.

"The reason that Megyn's comments about blackface being OK when she was a kid ... were so offensive is that blackface is a projection of the racism that lies much deeper, and a symbol of times that are not quite as far past as we may wish to admit", the students commented.

Kelly has yet to speak out after her show was canceled, but did tearfully apologize on-air about her blackface remarks, explaining that she has since changed her stance. Though Kelly apologized to the Today show staff for her insensitive remarks, that wasn't enough, he said. Al Roker said on Twitter that Kelly "owes a bigger apology to folks of color around the country". But, when Megyn Kelly left, it was just another day.

"I want to begin with two words - "I'm sorry, '" she told those in attendance and on TV". "I learned that given the history of blackface being used in very bad ways by racists in this country, it is not OK for that to be part of any costume, Halloween or otherwise". "There is no place on our air or in this workplace for them".

Social media was quick to correct her ignorance and even NBC anchors slammed the former Fox News host. Kelly was reportedly making about $20 million a year with her NBC contract. Before he was sacked in 2017 for sexual misconduct, Lauer earned a reported $20 to $25 million a year. Kelly's attorney is undoubtedly aware of the fact that Lack's news division has been under scrutiny for refusing to air Farrow's reporting on Hollywood producer Weinstein's sexual misconduct.

"[The $23 million figure] means that Kelly's remuneration package is bested only by Matt Lauer - who has been at NBC for 23 years - and has an estimated salary of $25 million", The Daily Beast's Tom Sykes pointed out at the time. Kotb has been with NBC since 1998 and on the Today show since 2008. Along the way, she struggled to find a consistent audience.
