After defeating Derrick Lewis via second-round submission in last night's UFC 230 main event, Daniel Cormier revealed that he had injured his back that same morning and was nearly forced to pullout of the contest.

Daniel Cormier has lit the fuse for a blockbuster heavyweight showdown with Brock Lesnar after a historic win at UFC 230.

Before Cormier called out his likely future opponent, he had plenty of kind words to say for his previous one.

Cormier defended his title with a clinical win over Lewis.

Daniel Cormier has been in the minds of pro wrestling fans ever since he and Brock Lesnar had the confrontation inside the Octagon at UFC 226. The champ maintained top position as the MSG crowd grew restless.

With a minute left in the round, Lewis was at Cormier's mercy.

In between rounds, Cormier's corner instructed him to do the exact same thing and exhausted the Black Beast out. Lewis took up mixed martial arts shortly after his release and used his big right hand to ascend to a title shot. While Lewis instantly worked back to this feet, Cormier snapped him to the canvas with a headlock, then picked the ankle to keep him grounded as the challenger looked to scramble free.

It was a slick finish for Cormier, who locked in a rear-naked choke and Lewis coudln't fight it.

In other middleweight action, rising star Israel Adesanya remained unbeaten by knocking out Derek Brunson in the first round. After fending of several takedown attempts, Adesanya created enough space to land a knee that stunned Brunson.

Further up the card, Karl Roberson earned a dominant decision over Jack Marshman and former light heavyweight Jared Cannonier knocked out David Branch inside two rounds.
