Dems lead over GOP in new poll days before midterms

In the past several midterms, the party in power was relatively complacent compared with the party hoping to be in power.

Democrats lead the early voting with 41 percent of the total turnout statewide to 38 percent for Republicans.

Plus, President Trump has embraced the referendum on himself in a way other presidents have not. But he discounts the idea of a long-term political exile for them because, "two years, four years, from now, it's a different political context".

Here are five questions that could be answered on election night. But there are a lot of factors at play that will determine if the Democrats can actually gain control.

He said Democrats are responsible for progress and Republicans like to be reactionary to that progress for a better nation. Some Democrats are looking at using the House Ways and Means Committee to obtain copies of the president's tax returns after he broke with decades of tradition and withheld them from public scrutiny during his campaign for the White House.

The #metoo movement, which exploded during Trump's first year in office, has heightened awareness of the gender wage gap. The size of this "green wave" of cash has surprised and anxious Republicans.

Trump is mostly focusing on Senate and gubernatorial races during his final midterms push, expressing greater and greater confidence that his immigration- and bash-Democrats strategy will get out the GOP vote.

"They're trying to convince us that honesty is relative depending on where you stand", Biden said of Trump and Republicans. That has provided a big structural advantage to the GOP ever since. You get more bang for your buck as president campaigning in one of 35 Senate races than in one of 435 House races. The president has been campaigning plenty in those places.

Congressional candidates campaigned in a whirlwind close across the country: in Virginia, Democrat Jennifer Wexton greeted voters in the Manassas Veterans Day parade; in New Jersey Republican Jay Webber met them in a diner, and in Minnesota Republican Pete Stauber went door-to-door urging people to vote. In Tennessee, he'll visit Chattanooga in a bid to bolster Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who faces former Governor Phil Bredesen in a key Senate race. But Bredesen has fallen behind his Republican opponent, Rep. Marsha Blackburn, in the most recent polls. Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is defending his seat from Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke.

Friday, only a hundred military personnel had arrived in the town of McAllen (Texas), one of the main crossing points between the United States and Mexico, according to this spokesperson.

After 2016, it looked as if Trump was going to turn the battleground states of Iowa and OH red. Mr. Trump is not a very effective anti-Semite, it would seem.

In front of an all white, mostly middle-aged-and-up group of about 100, Stewart, flanked by banners bearing his name below a red emblazoned "Support Trump" slogan, entered the room in the Augusta County government building to the "USA, USA" chants that have become a staple of Trump rallies. And they can no longer cover up Democrats' silence on open borders and mass illegal immigration, which an overwhelming majority of Americans oppose.

The list included two former presidents (Bill Clinton and Barack Obama), Hillary Clinton, former Attorney General Eric Holder; a former CIA director; a former director of National Intelligence; two likely Democratic presidential candidates in 2020; a black congresswoman whom Trump frequently describes as "low IQ" (a common racist charge); two prominent Jewish billionaire philanthropists, one of whom, George Soros, is a frequent target of Trump and the subject of various right-wing conspiracy fantasies; and the actor Robert De Niro (who began his speech at this year's Tony Awards ceremony by declaring, "F**k Trump").

Every midterm is a referendum on the president and his party, and Trump has embraced that dynamic more enthusiastically than any previous president. "If you vote for them, that's your fault, not mine".

Two days before the midterm elections, Democrats have a 7-point lead over Republicans as voters from both political parties are conveying high-level enthusiasm, a poll released Sunday shows.
