The Reds have conceded just four goals in their opening ten matches and would look to overtake City at the top of the table with a win against Arsenal.

Klopp dismissed the suggestion, however, Emery produced a tactical masterclass to get the better of his side in the second half of their Europa League final encounter.

But this game will be the first time they have come up against a "big six" rival since the back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea at the start of the season.

The difficulties stretch even further back with Arsenal taking 26 points from those fixtures since the start of the 2015/16 campaign - 18 less than the next team in Chelsea. Emery had used Granit Xhaka as left-back but it remains to be seen if the coach will take the risk, considering Liverpool's attacking flair. It's a reason also that firstly I have respect and secondly because I want to win each match, like today against Blackpool. For our result this point is not enough but Liverpool is a very good test and at the moment we are continuing to work and improve and we are nearer to this performance going forward, ' he said. "But if they can not play we are going to play another player", the manager said when asked about the injury issues.

"There are teams that sometimes run more than we do given the amount of defending they have to do. We have now a good spirit and good, exciting players for tomorrow".

"I think it's a very hard game, very hard team, but for us it's about success against them with our quality, our performance and also our respect".

He beat Jurgen Klopp's Reds in Basle that night but Emery admits he wants to smile as much as his counterpart.

AC Milan, where former Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis is set to take charge, are leading the chase, but they have major competition, with Juventus also keen, whilst Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Monaco and Borussia Dortmund are also keeping tabs on him. I don't know the level in League One for this team against other teams, but for us I know, and I spoke before the game with people to know the level of this team. And then the smile is bigger when you win.

Matteo Guendouzi is suspended, while Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac are nearing returns from hamstring injuries and will be assessed. But we need this quality in every match.

"Where we play that is a yellow".

"They won, we lost, that's already history".
