The performance served to convince many skeptics of UCF's prowess on the field, including college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit, who gushed about the team after witnessing it live via ESPN College Gameday, which visited UCF Saturday. No. 4 MI (-4), meanwhile, needs a victory at the Big House against No. 10 Ohio State to keep its Big Ten and College Football Playoff hopes alive.

The biggest complaint about these playoffs is only four teams are picked to get in.

Committee chair Rob Mullens said his group spent a lot of time discussing UCF vs. Ohio State after Urban Meyer's Buckeyes held on to beat Maryland in overtime.

Utah State (No. 21) and Boise State (No. 23) are the next two Group of Five teams in the rankings and would be next in line for a spot in a New Year's Six game, if UCF stumbles Friday against USF and in the AAC title game. And No. 6 Oklahoma (-1.5) vs.

Assuming Clemson gets a mulligan and gets into the playoff, every other team would have at least two losses.

NCAA Rivalry games Thanksgiving weekend

Now consider the other four contenders, who face far tougher tests.

Also that night, Washington State hosts No. 16 Washington (8-3) in the 112th Apple Cup.

The College Football Playoff National Championship Game is slated to be played on Monday, Jan. 7, at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

And then Saturday brings Michigan-Ohio State. A one-loss Alabama team that fails to win its conference?

The model was red-hot in Week 12, nailing Oklahoma State's outright upset of West Virginia. This year is no different in that the slate is jammed packed with great rivalry games but there's something interesting this weekend that we haven't gotten in a long time.
