Davis was in caretaker charge of the Saints' 3-1 defeat to Tottenham at Wembley, where the Austrian, who was appointed as Mark Hughes' successor earlier on Wednesday, took a watching brief.

Southampton have confirmed Ralph Hasenhuttl as their new manager on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Hasenhuttl made a name for himself in Germany, first by getting Ingolstadt promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history, and then guiding RB Leipzig to an unlikely 2nd place finish in their first top flight campaign. 'The club's philosophy fits to mine, it was a good decision for me'.

Referee Moss signalled advantage despite the situation looking under control, until Vestergaard stumbled over the ball to allow the Scottish forward to go clear through on goal and beat McCarthy with a shot that dribbled over the line.

The Saints parted company with Hughes on Monday and, after losing to Spurs, have only one victory from their 15 Premier League games and sit 18th in the table.

Prizes include, a trip to Old Trafford to watch Man United take on Liverpool in the Premier League, tickets to Ireland's home games in the Six Nations, All Ireland football and hurling final tickets and much more.

But Southampton fans should be fearful of one aspect of Hasenhuttl's managerial career.

There was a spell there where you had Alan Pardew, Sam Allardyce and these people who got each other's job all the time, a job came up every couple of months and Big Sam would be in the frame. "The near future has to be move as quickly as we can out of the (relegation) zone", the Austrian said.

"We have a lot of games coming up and if you know my football it is about training sessions and habits so when you don't have the chance to train it can be hard to change things".

'I know the league now.

I think Southampton saw how Leipzig had improved as a team under Hasenhuttl and while they did have money to spend, a lot of it was done to the coach and his ideas. Now we need to look at the guys and see how they compare'. "That's how I want to work until January".
