Daryl Dragon of Captain and Tennille dies

Dragon and Tennille rose to fame in the 1970's with Tennille as vocalist and Dragon on keyboards. "RIP", tweeted US-based celebrity gossip guru Perez Hilton. He left us a great legacy through his music. "Love & Mercy to Daryl, his family and friends". "I loved him with all my heart", said the 75-year-old Tennille.

Daryl Dragon and then-wife Toni Tennille spent most of the 1990s and early 2000s living in Washoe Valley. "I was at my most creative in my life, when I was with him", Tennille said.

Dragon's familiar image and stage name came from his time as a keyboard player with The Beach Boys from 1967 to 1972. The band's Mike Love was the source of his nautical nickname, because of the type of hats he often wore onstage.

However, in an interview with the TODAY Show that April, she goes on to say how she loved Dragon deeply and what caused their breakup after four decades.

After teaming up with Tennille, their other hits included Muskrat Love in 1976 and Do That to Me One More Time in 1980.

"Here I was a newly married woman with a hit record and a Grammy, living the dream that so many artists aim for", Tennille recalled to the publication.

The duo had a short lived variety series on television in the 1970s. Dragon and Tennille divorced in 2014 after almost 40 years of marriage, but they remained close and Tennille had moved back to Arizona to help care for him.

Tennille revealed on her blog in 2010 that Dragon had a neurological condition that sometimes affected his ability to perform.

Dragon is survived by a brother, Doug Dragon, and two nieces, Kelly Arbout and Renee Henn.
