The 31-year-old has since been linked with a January move to French side, Monaco, with reports in the United Kingdom suggesting that a deal could be completed next week.

Cesc Fabregas started and was named captain as Chelsea beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 in the FA Cup in what is likely to be his last appearance for the club.

The Italian coach, who was on media duties for the cup match, had not held back in his assessment of Morata's below-par season, saying: 'People expect a lot from Chelsea's number nine. Fabregas' contract is set to expire at the end of the season and he has made a decision to leave the club this month in search for a new challenge.

Morata's goals knocked down Karanka's Forest.

Morata was guilty of missing a huge chance when heading Zappacosta's delightful cross right at Luke Steele, with plenty of the goal to aim for either side of Forest's back-up keeper.

Chelsea lost a bit of their momentum late in the first period when Loftus-Cheek hobbled off with a minor injury, leading to the introduction of Eden Hazard for the remaining 48 minutes.

But the former defender obviously appreciated Fabregas both on and off the pitch by uploading a class Instagram post.

The afternoon's last notable moment saw Fabregas given a standing ovation as he left the field in the 85th minute, the Chelsea faithful rising to acknowledge a man who helped the club to two Premier League titles in a trophy-laden four-and-a-half years at the club.

"He's going to go down as one of best midfielders ever".

With Bayern hoping to lure Hudson-Odoi away from Stamford Bridge, the 18-year-old showed just why Chelsea value him so highly with an all-action performance and two assists.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek went off shortly before half-time.
