There is still a chance the storm could strengthen dramatically and turn northward, but there is now just a 20 percent chance of snow overnight Saturday, Jan. 12 into Sunday, Jan. 13 for downstate NY and southern CT.

A little bit of freezing drizzle & some flurries may occur after 2 a.m. early Sunday morning.

Over the weekend, highs are forecast in the lower 30s, with lows in the 20s. Winds will start to pick up again, NE at 10 to 20 and gusts to 30 miles per hour. Cloudy for the afternoon with temps in the low 30s. Get ready. The pattern that has kept this winter's cold and snow at bay thus far is now starting to "awaken" so-to-speak. Snow begins after 2 p.m. The high Saturday is expected be in the upper 30s.

Heading to the Chiefs game? The earlier you leave Friday morning, the better. Higher totals are possible closer to central and northern Virginia. Note on the map below the far-reaching extent of heavy snow. By the end of the game it will likely be dry however roads may still be hazardous so be cautious and be smart. This will create slick roads, especially in areas that have not been pretreated. "Considering the moisture content available, temperatures and track, up to 4" will be possible in spots, if not more in some isolated spots. "From Hwy 30 to I-80 1-3" of snow are expected.

The next chance of precipitation may not be until late Friday into next Saturday with rain changing over to snow (almost very similar to the storm system today/tomorrow).
