Tulsi Gabbard announces 2020 Presidential run to take on Donald Trump

"I have chose to run and will be making a formal announcement within the next week", CNN quoted Gabbard as saying in a pretaped interview for "The Van Jones Show".

CNN reported Ms Gabbard saying there are a lot of challenges facing the people of the United States and she wants to help solve them.

Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is running for President in 2020.

Gabbard said although her "main issue" will be "war and peace", she will push for combating climate change, reforming the criminal justice system, and providing healthcare for all Americans.

"There are a lot of reasons for me to make this decision", Gabbard told CNN.

Gabbard was deployed to Iraq in 2005, and she maintains her role as a member of the Hawaii National Guard.

Gabbard won the 2012 race with the support of veterans' groups and by Emily's List, which supports female candidates who support abortion rights, and arrived in Congress as a star - a female Iraq War veteran and the first Hindu woman to serve in the body. Also in the hunt is Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, who has been scouting the ground in Iowa, which typically is the first state to hold primaries. "Will you join me?" she asked on Twitter.

Minutes after Gabbard's announcement, Republicans released a "cheat sheet" about the Hawaii congresswoman dubbing her "Assad's mouthpiece in Washington".

A fourth-term lawmaker from Hawaii, Gabbard, along with newer first-time Representatives such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex and Rashiada Tlaib, is among the new set of Democrat insurgents who are challenging the traditional power structure in the Party with their radical leftist approach. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in his 2016 presidential run.

Gabbard backs domestic policy items such as Medicare for All and a Green New Deal, and she garnered praise and notoriety for resigning from her post as vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to endorse Sen. "It is long overdue that we end USA complicity in Saudi Arabia's atrocities", Gabbard said of the hot button issue. "I look forward to being able to get into this and to talk about it in depth when we make our announcement", Gabbard said.

And Harris is an Indian American from her mother's side and African American from her father's.

The 2020 presidential primary cycle is scheduled to kick off from the Iowa Caucuses on February 3, 2020, followed by the New Hampshire Primary on February 11, Nevada caucus of February 15 and SC on February 22.
